Autumn/winter 2012 is about full-bodied, understated glamour. With the styles flowing from sleek to windswept, the look is one of subtle femininity and ethereal minimalism. Ralph Lauren, Dior and Jil Sander had long locks worn neat and silken, with heavy partings for a polished feel; whilst Vera Wang, Rodarte and Chloe wore natural, languid styles with a vintage touch in global catwalks. Bold fringes are the newest accessory, creating a statement of youth, power and fun.

The Cision Hair Educational Soiree was a tantalizing event of colour, glamour and tutelage.  Cision released their autumn/winter colour palette showcasing the favourite trends for the season and performed their talents for a loving crowd of those in the industry.

Cision Hair used inspired catwalk looks, which were crafted to wear everyday.  Enticing colour cocktails were presented with the latest trends, creating a seminar that was both educational and inspiring. The attendees learnt techniques to hone their crafts and gained valuable experience and practical tips.

The hosts were Cision’s own Yasmine Harland and Nigel Griffin, with special guest Jason Sorbie, Cision’s premier colourist who specializes in balayage.

Yasmine is the winner and multiple time finalist of the prestigious WA Hairdresser of the Year Award, a cutting and styling expert, an experienced platform and editorial artist with numerous Scoop Magazine covers as well as features within Harpers Bazaar and STM. Yasmine was a Director of hair for Perth Fashion Week as well as Australian Fashion Week  (Sydney).

Nigel is an expert in colour and had worked for such leading icons as Vidal Sassoon, Beverly Cobella and Renya Xydis. Nigel has co-directed numerous fashion shows including Perth Fashion Week and Australian Fashion Week (Sydney). Nigel has been a hairdresser to the stars, including Jennifer Hawkins and Nicole Kidman

Jason has won the esteemed IHS Cut and Colour Award ten times, worked as a stylist within the movie industry, and travelled internationally for work. Jason has worked on fashion shows, the Melbourne Cup (2011), backstage at the Samantha Win Bridal Show and educates others in the technical aspects of colour and styling.

Be Nutritious, Look Delicious

Everyone wants to look their best, however it’s common to treat the symptom and not the cause. Globally, women spend billions trying to make their hair and skin feel and look better, frequently without considering why it doesn’t in the first place. If a wall is crumbling, no amount of wallpaper will keep it up– regardless of how expensive or pretty it is. Looking good works on the same principals. If you want beautiful hair and skin, you need to start in the kitchen.

High quality products supplement a good diet and help improve and maintain beautiful locks. The Wella SP range found in store is particularly effective. The prescriptive nature of the product targets your primary, secondary and tertiary hair needs providing a regime for complete hair health; our stylists can talk you through what will be most effective for your personal needs.

Hair is predominately made up of a protein call keratin, it is literally the building block from which your hair and skin is made. Keratin needs vitamins and minerals in order for it to be metabolized effectively within the body. The better balanced your diet with these nutrients the more naturally gorgeous you’ll be. Foods orange in colour have high amount of keratin (such as mangoes, sweet potatoes and carrots). Green leafy, and cruciferous vegetables like spinach and broccoli are also great ways to get keratin into your diet. Zinc, sulphur, iron and magnesium as well as vitamins A, E, C and B4, B5, B6 and B12 are all needed to metabolise keratin. It may sound daunting but with the right combination it’s simple to work them into your diet. Broccoli alone contains all the important vitamins and minerals necessary for the uptake of keratin, which makes it the follicle super food. Having a nutrient dense diet is the simplest way to looking good. Try the recipe below, it’s a delicious combination of the necessary vitamins, minerals and protein to give your hair and skin a glow of health.

The Secret of Bridal Hair Styles

We’ve styled some awesome weddings lately.  Initially these have come from people filling in the wedding enquiry form on our website.

It is so much fun exchanging ideas and sometimes clients email me photos when they come across a look they love.

I then do a trial run with the bride to make sure the chosen style is suitable. Most brides try and organise it for the same day as their makeup trial, or for one of their dress fittings, to help them get the overall look.

The secret of planning hair for a group is to not be too crazy about the hair having to be identical.  Some styles don’t work well with different hair types or on different faces.

You really want your bridesmaids to feel comfortable and look fabulous. This is far more important than being exactly the same. Generally there is no need for everyone in the bridal party to have a hair trial, however we can accomodate if need be.

Happy girls create a lovely wedding vibe and look good in photos.

So what I do is talk with the bride first to identify her preferred theme.  I could be loose and curls, hair in buns or a retro look.

Once you have a broad theme you can then work with each girl to create something which she loves, flatters her and keeps to the theme.

Using a strategy like this you are able to get everyone in the bridal group looking their very best.  People know when they look fabulous.  They are relaxed and happy and this really can add to the atmosphere of the whole event.

So if you are starting to plan your wedding please get in touch.  We would love to help you plan the look for your special celebration.

Special Occasion Hair Up – Dos and Don’ts

Sarah chose a simple 'half up' style for her wedding day

If you have a special occasion coming up there’s nothing quite like getting your hair done up to make you feel a million dollars.

I have a few tips to get you thinking…

Stay Comfortable

You don’t want to go too far out of your comfort zone.  If you never wear your hair up or wear feminine styles it is going to feel pretty weird.  To get used to this new style it is a good idea to get in practice runs.  Get your hair done up and wear it to a party or night out.  You’ll know then whether the style will work for you.

Consider Your Outfit

Collars, straps, halter necks, bare skin, jewellery all create a certain look.  Your hair style needs to complement rather than compete with the rest of your outfit.

Keep It Elegant and Simple

Don’t wear the Opera House on your head.  Just because a hair style is possible doesn’t mean you should go with it. Remember you want your hairstyle to complete your look, not overpower it.

Healthy Hair Looks Great

If your hair is in good condition and healthy then it is going to look good with even the most simple style.

Plan Ahead

Regular trims and treatments in the lead up to your special event will make a huge difference on many levels.  You will have your hair in great condition and the ideal length for the style you are after.  Planning will also give you time to consult and practice the perfect hair do with your stylist.

Enjoy

A special event is about having fun. You shouldn’t have to worry about your outfit or your hair. A little bit of planning will give you a lot more confidence and ensure that you feel and look great.

So if you have something special coming up and you would like a special “hair up do” why not come in and talk to us – we’d love to plan it with you.

Melbourne Cup

With Melbourne Cup and the Summer party season on our doorstep, it’s time to talk fashion.

Kate, from the Sheer team and Sana boutique in St Quentin’s Ave, Claremont says

“With long, flowing neutral tones and liquid layers of silk this season definitely has the relaxed attitude of boho with the simple polish of true glamour. ”

Hot new names to look out for include Briony Marsh (VIC) and Lisa Brown (QLD)

Accessories stand out with chunky wrist cuffs, headbands adorned with feathers, charms and over sized jewels. Combine these statement pieces with soft “glamazon” waves or an exaggerated version of traditional styles like the french roll, with heaps of body and a few fly-aways.

For the boys it’s all about a well cut suit in a light or neutral tone and a clean cut ‘bond-esque’ attitude.

See Kaz at Brave New World in William St Northbridge to get the “other half” looking good!! She even has an awesome range of original handmade ties made from exquisite fabrics!

Well the social calendar is filling fast, so we hope to see you out and about this Summer!

And don’t forget, we are open from 8am till Midday on Cup Day for all your styling needs, be sure to book ASAP cos spaces fill up quickly!!
